The Jackie Howe Festival celebrates the history of our thriving sheep and wool industry here in Australia, and is only days away.

As many of you may be aware after reading my last post, being able to support the Australian industry, is something I feel strongly about, so being able to draw attention to a festival that celebrates the Australian Wool industry is right up my alley.

The majority of wool used within the fashion industry is supplied from Australia, and with a reputation for it's high quality, it's no wonder Australia has become renowned as one of the leaders in the wool industry.

The Jackie Howe festival takes you back in time to the 1890's, which was when the Jondaryan Woolshed (where the event is held) was at its peak. Old shearing techniques are demonstrated in a re-enactment, showing how the historical shearing shed operated and how techniques have changed with improvements in technology.

The festival kicks off on Friday night with the Runway to Runway Gala Banquet, a black tie event, that will be showcasing incredible fashion from Australian designers such as Alex Perry, Toni Maticevski, Aje and this years Ambassador Nicola Finetti.

Nicola Finetti is well known within the Australian fashion community, after having established his label back in 1995. Being one of few designers to still design and manufacture  within Australia, he has a reputation of producing elegant womenswear with an edge.

Finetti's spring/summer collection will be shown on Friday night with the collection being "about texture,... (and) fabrication" as well as the structure of the individual garment.

The winner of the Emerging Designer contest will be announced on the night with the winner getting a three day mentorship with the designer, when asked what Finetti's number one tip for young designers is, he said "perservance and persistent is one of the main things that you have to do, because you will have lots of nos and not so many yes".

Nicola will be attending a few of the events over the weekend, but is also looking forward to exploring the region "seeing what is there, because I have never been there" and seeing what local designers have on offer and the fashions of our area.

To book tickets for any of the events over the weekend visit Jondaryan Woolshed.
